Göta canal

19 miles and 200 years old with exciting history! Swim, cycle, hike, shop, eat, sleep, play - we are close to the locks Sjötorp, Hajstorp, and Norrkvarn.

Hajstorps memorial

If you're passing Hajstorp, you can take a short detour to the almost four meter high memorial, hidden behind a hedge. It was erected in the early 1900s to commemorate the opening of the canal and has been added to on anniversaries. It's not much to look at, but it's a fun historical detail if you're visiting the locks or having an ice cream by the canal.

Kinnekulle

A distance from Lyrestad, but well worth the trip, is Kinnekulle - a place filled with greenery and magnificent nature. Here you can hike through lush forests, visit the mysterious Lasse's cave or swim in the turquoise quarry. For those who like beautiful buildings, there are several mansions to explore, all with a fantastic view of Lake Vänern.

Discover Lyrestad on two wheels! Cycle along the car-free towpath of the Göta Canal and enjoy beautiful nature and historic locks. Take a trip south towards Töreboda or north towards Sjötorp and Lake Vänern - a perfect excursion for both short and long bike rides. During the summer you will also be able to rent bikes from the hotel.

Fishing in Lyrestad

Fishing in Lyrestad! The Göta Canal and nearby lakes offer great opportunities to catch pike, perch and zander. Remember to check the fishing rules and any fishing licenses before you throw in the line!
