Göta canal

190 kilometers and 200 years old with an exciting history! Swim, cycle, hike, shop, eat, sleep, play - we are close to the locks Sjötorp, Hajstorp, and Norrkvarn.

Mariestad

Visit the Old Town, the Cathedral, Vadsbo Museum or the cozy little shops scattered throughout the town. Take the opportunity to try eating at the very popular restaurants Kingfisher or Sill&Dynamit.

Kinnekulle

A bit away from Lyrestad, but well worth a trip, lies Kinnekulle – a place filled with greenery and magnificent nature. Here you can hike through lush forests, visit the mysterious Lasse's cave or swim in the turquoise quarry. For those who like beautiful buildings, there are several manor houses to explore, all with a fantastic view of Lake Vänern.

Torsö

Visit Torsö, in the middle of the Vänern Archipelago biosphere reserve. The largest island in Vänern, which is Sweden's largest lake. In the middle of a beautiful archipelago, with fantastic nature, attractions and hiking trails. Torsö is only 25 minutes by car from Norrqvarn

Norrqvarn lock area

Norrqvarn's lock area is a place where history and nature meet on the Göta Canal. Here you can walk along the water, watch boats pass by the locks, enjoy the tranquility or take a break with something good to eat. An idyll for both young and old, in the middle of the greenery.

Vänerleden / Göta Canal trail by bike

Cycle along the Vänerleden or Göta Canal Trail and experience nature, history and still water on two wheels – perfect for both adventure and relaxation.

Fishing in the Göta Canal

Fishing in Lyrestad! Göta Canal and nearby lakes offer great opportunities to catch pike, perch and zander. Remember to check the fishing regulations and any fishing licenses before you cast your line!

Canoe / Kayak

With us at Norrqvarn you will have the opportunity to rent a canoe / kayak to use in the Göta Canal during the summer.
